Kauai Photo Dump

For the past few years, we’ve been saving up for a trip to Hawaii for our tenth anniversary. We made a mini Anderson family reunion out of it and enjoyed time with family, fish, and… chickens.

This month we spent a few relaxing days on the island of Kauai. I went to Oahu with my family about sixteen years ago, but this was my first time on Kauai, so it was pretty exciting. We stayed in a rental home with my parents and brother. Thanks for the great lodging, Mom & Dad!

It is a beautiful island, and we had a wonderful time.

Do you see this guy stalking my shrimp? Seriously, the chickens and roosters are EVERYwhere.

Poor Landon was pretty worn out the first day, and he had a hard time adjusting to the climate. He learned to associate the word “hot” with climate and not just food, poor kid.

The house we stayed in was surrounded by greenery that hid it from everything else. There were mangoes, bananas, avocados, coconuts, and more growing on the property that we were allowed to eat.

We had lots of fun at the beach down the street and enjoyed seeing the sights.

Isaac was the only one brave enough to trek down to the beach at dawn to see the sunrise; I stayed in bed with the sleeping kids.

After a few days on Kauai, we met up with more family on Oahu!

Condo Update

This summer we decided for many reasons that it was time to sell the condo, but we made a few updates before putting it on the market. We didn’t do anything super major, but we wanted to get buyers in the door and writing offers as soon as possible, and we wanted to be comparable to other units that sold well in recent months.

BEFORE:

AFTER:

- carpet in the front rooms replaced with wood laminate (& new, wider baseboards)

- tile countertops replaced with granite (with new kitchen sink & faucet)

- new paint throughout

- replaced fluorescent lighting in kitchen with canned lights and added pendants over pass-through

We received an offer over asking a few days after putting it on the market, which we accepted, and our realtor graciously sent everything to us when we were out of town. Home inspection is tomorrow, and we’ll go from there, but we have our *fingers crossed* this will all be sold and done before school starts! Wish us luck!

Evolution of a Playroom

One of the summer projects we planned this year was to turn this little attic space into a playroom for the boys, partly for fun and partly so they have more space when they end up sharing a room this fall.

We started with the 8x8x5-ish foot attic space, the entrance to which is in Aiden’s closet. We had some baby clothes stored in it, so we moved all of that out.

Isaac removed the old panels which covered most of the walls and *happy day* found an electrical line he could splice into since the attic space was unlit.

He enlarged the entrance, installed a light, put up new paneling on the walls and ceilings, and installed a register over the vent.

He mostly used flooring we had leftover from earlier projects to lay a new floor, and then he trimmed it all out.

After Isaac did all the hard work, my job was cleaning, organizing, and decorating. The boys had a blast moving in the train table, a small table & chair, a rug, and some toy storage.

Aiden helped me decorate. We put up wall decals with cars, planes, and trains. We put up an alphabet poster, an Usborne World Map, and a giant white board Isaac rescued from discard at a past job.

In case you can’t tell, the boys are super happy.

Next project: Condo Renovation… we’ll leave this one mostly to the professionals…

Summer Week 3

This kid was SUPER excited to get his own sunglasses this week. Now he's really ready for summer. :)
